Um, what's nerikomi?
Nerikomi is a Japanese hand-building technique that combines different colours of clay in order to create patterns. Traditional nerikomi is often presice and intricate, but you can also practice in a looser, more organic way. It's super fun and addictive and I can't wait to share this skill with you all. Take a look at my example photos to see the many different ways you can explore with nerikomi patterns and some process shots.
New to clay?
These workshops are perfect for beginners as well as experts! Come along even if you've never touched clay before, or if you're a clay person who wants to learn a new skill. I'll be teaching some of the nerikomi 101 patterns (checks, stripes, and marbling) or for those who want more of a challenge I can talk you through making more complex patterns.
More Details:
Location: Wonder Group Studio, 46 Ponsonby Rd.
What you'll make: A small plate or bowl (or both if you're fast!) with nerikomi pattern. The base clay will be a speckled sand colour or classic white with a selection of 8 colours to make your nerikomi patterns from. You can go colourful or take a more neutral toned route if you like.
Group size: Approx. 8 people each session
Accessibility: Please let me know if you have any accessibility needs. Unfortunately, this space is not wheelchair accessible, but I'm looking for a more accessible space for future workshops. The space isn't great for small humans or dogs - but let me know if this is a barrier and I'll see what we can do :)
