Hineukurangi is a sculptural piece to adorn your whare inspired by the atua of clay.
The body of the work is made using stoneware clay including uku harvested from Kūatunu, Coromandel. The sphere is unfired whenua gathered Kapanga Coromandel which has been compressed and polished, left unfired.
This piece was part of the a body of works called Earthly Delights. Earthly delights is a body of work that looks to focus the narrative of clay to the whenua in Aotearoa. It traces the whakapapa of clay, beginning with the realm of Te Kore; an expansive void of potential, through Te Pō; the perpetual darkness, and arriving at Te Ao Mārama, the world of light we experience today.
